My first FOOD FINDS post! I love finding and trying new things and this is an exciting one for me.
I know, I know, I’m totally late to this game. I’ve heard about Chia Seeds, Flax Seeds, and Protein Powder for years! But I’ve never actually been brave enough to try them.
Talking with my grandma this past weekend, she was telling me about Winco’s bulk section and how good the prices are! She was also telling me all about chia seeds and how good they are in so many ways. More on that later.
Since we are the middle of a pandemic, the bulk section isn’t open for regular business, they’ve prepackaged these items and you grab one bag out of the bin.
So Sunday, I had to grab a couple of items and Winco is the closest, so I thought I would see what they had. I struck gold! Or seed/powder?
I found Flax Seeds ($1.09), Protein Powder ($1.90).. the Chia Seeds unfortunately I had to pay retail (like $5.50), and not bulk due to them not having any out that day.. but I still got some and I’ve been using it! I also found the PB Fit Peanut Butter Powder in the bulk section.. I didn’t grab it this time, but I will next time because after researching, you cannot get a better deal anywhere! So that’s exciting!
Whoa, what a fun section, I’ve never even bothered to look there before. So many things!
After some research, here are some of the amazing things I found Chia Seeds help with (but there’s so much more!):
I was also intrigued by Flax Seeds, I didn’t know to much about them, but boy I sure do now! Both of these little seeds pack so much PUNCH! Here’s what I found when researching Flax Seeds:
Now for the protein powder. I have struggled to find something my body can tolerate. Everything flavored has some sort of fake sugar in it, which my body does not like, and I get massive migraines when I ingest any (and I mean ANY AND ALL) of the fake or non-traditional “sugars”. I made the mistake of buying WW smoothies once way back, and I made one that morning and brought it with me to work and drank it at work. I had to leave early. My head was pounding, I couldn’t open my eyes, it was a really bad reaction. I believe at the time that was either Splenda or aspartame.
So when I found this plain ole whey protein powder (zero sugar on the nutritional facts) in the bulk section, I was super excited, I found a teeny bag so I could just try it to see if it tastes horrible in my smoothie. (I didn’t want to go the full $7.91 for a whole pound) but that price! So good!
My main reasoning for this was just to get more protein into my diet. I do ok, but I’d like to do better. But there are so many health benefits to consuming whey protein:
Yesterday, I made my smoothie, which made 3 16 oz cups of smoothie.. I had added some extra almond milk because of the chia seeds, and it was too much! Today’s smoothie will be less! I could only drink two of the 16 oz cups. The whole blender was 9 points (because I’m team don’t count blended fruit) I only had six and those two 16 oz cups were both breakfast and my lunch! Not too shabby! I felt great, the addition of chia and protein powder did not change the flavor to my noticing.
I’m excited to make my smoothie tonight for dinner!
