Let’s talk about Fitbit & Step Goals! My goal for a very long time has been 8,000 steps a day, and for the first six months of 2020 (and most of 2018/2019), I rarely hit that.
BUT in June of 2020 I started really trying to hit those steps again.
Back in 2015-2017 (maybe up to some of 2018), I was regularly above 12,000 steps a day often getting between 14-15,000.
Then life happened. I got lazy again. And the steps weren’t coming as easily and I gave up. I still wore my fitbit and tracked my steps everyday, but I didn’t have the motivation to hit my goals.
On June 15th 2020, I made the vow in my blog and to myself, that I would hit 8,000 steps again, every day. NO. MATTER. WHAT.
And I DID IT!!! I have solidly hit that 8,000 since 6/15!
Now in September, I wanted to step things up, so I created my Take Back 2020 Challenge for the last four months of the year. My goal was starting Sept 1, my goal was officially 10,000 steps per day.
Now I know, I know, that’s what’s already recommended. But I wasn’t regularly doing it, and I believe in gradually upping my step goals so I don’t overwhelm myself.
And I am PROUD to say since 8/31/20, I have hit 10,000 OR MORE per day every day!
I have been hitting my goals for 18 weeks & 3 days!
That’s a total of 129 days I’ve been hitting my step goals!!!
It has been so long since I’ve had such a streak. I will not go to bed now until I’ve hit my steps. No matter what, I’m exhausted stepping next to my bed to get the last few hundred (sometimes thousands) in for the day. BUT I DO IT!
Now… is it time? Is it time to up my goal? I worked on 8,000 for a month and a half. I’ve been doing 10,000 for almost two months… should I reach for 11,000??? I feel 12,000 might be a bit too ambitious yet.
Starting November 1st – I will officially change my goal to 11,000 steps.
I think the timing is good, for the holidays. I can wait until January 1, 2021 to move up to 12,000 steps.
The time is now! I’m so proud of my progress this year and the weight and inches I’ve lost, the steps I’ve taken. 2020 is still going to be a great year for me because I CHOSE to take it back from the negativity of the world events.
I love my Fitbit Inspire – I was really sad to lose my Fitbit One, but the added ability to swim with the inspire and the option to switch back and forth from the clip to my wrist has been great!
I even got some pretty bands for when I’m feeling wearing it on my wrist!
They are so pretty! And I like the clasp like a watch! Feels a little more secure.
Set those goals! Hit them! Rework them! You are always evolving and changing and making a better version of yourself!
I had a Fitbit for years. Recently bought an Apple Watch. I do the same thing. I set the goal. Work on it for several months and then up it. I just compete with myself, but I like the competition.
Set goals, crush em! This was my mantra for so much of my late twenties. Actually, why is that not still my mantra? Anywho, I want to congratulate you on setting those goals and crushing them for so many months already. Although, why wait for Jan 2021, if you are feeling good at 11K and the urge moves you tackle 12K sooner. You got this!!
Sounds like you have made some great progress! I am cheering you on, you can do 12,000 a day! Keep it up 😊.
Onwards and upwards is my motto. Just don’t injure yourself getting there. I injured my achilles a few years ago because of my desire to meet my steps goal. Now, I always get to the 10,000 but try to go beyond each day when I can. I swim too so know that I am keeping fit!
This post hit home. I have not been paying attention to my fitbit lately other than checking the time of day. I need to see what I have been averaging and increase that step goal. Thank you for inspiring me!
Congratulations! I’m working on consistency in my step goals as well. My current goal is 7500 steps a day but I hope to be consistently hitting 10,000 steps a day by the end of the year. Thanks for the inspiration!
I do not have a Fitbit, but a Samsung Active 2. But I love watching the numbers go up all day. I have been slacking recently. Your post has inspired me to get back to my old ways! Some ways I get extra steps in – I jog in place between moves in my circuit training. I step back and forth while folding laundry. I also jog in place when warming up my lunch at work. I walk around the parking lot while waiting for the kids to come out of school instead of facebooking in the car.
Thanks for the inspiration!
